Privacy Policy

CampsiteScan exists to alert you when a campsite opens up — not to collect data about you. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, and what we never do with it.

The short version

• We collect the minimum needed to run the service: your email address or mobile number, and your campsite watches.
• We never sell your data and never give advertisers your email address, phone number or watches. We do use Google and Meta measurement tags on our pages to see how the site and our own ads perform — see section 4.
• Delete your account anytime; your data goes with it.

1. What we collect

• Account: your email address or your mobile number, whichever you sign up with. You sign in with a one-time code sent there; we don't use passwords. Our authentication provider is Supabase. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email from Google; we get no access to your Google account beyond that.
• Your watches: the parks, dates, and search areas you set up, so we know what to check and where to send alerts. Location searches are places you type in (e.g. "within 30 miles of Ojai"). If you tap Near Me and your browser asks and you allow it, we use your device's approximate location, rounded to about a kilometer, to search around you. We keep that point only if you turn the search into a watch, like any other search area.
• Emails we send: we keep a record of alerts sent to your account so your dashboard can show alert history.
• Phone number: if you sign up with a mobile number, or add and verify one, we use it to confirm you own it (a one-time code), to sign you in, and to send you the text alerts you agreed to. We keep a record of that agreement: the wording you saw, the time, and technical details such as your IP address. Reply STOP to any text to opt out at any time. We never share mobile numbers or text message consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
• Technical basics: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) kept briefly for security and debugging. The analytics and ad-measurement tags we use are described in section 4.

2. What we use it for

Three things only: running the service (checking availability and sending your alerts), responding when you email us, and measuring how the site and our own ads perform. That's the whole list. We don't sell or rent your data, and we send marketing email only if you opt in — otherwise the only emails you'll get are alerts, and account or service notices.

3. Who else touches your data

We use a small set of service providers, each only for its job:

• Supabase — account sign-in and our database (hosted in the USA).
• Resend and email delivery providers — sending alert emails, and occasional news and tips only if you opt in. You can turn those off any time in Account settings.
• Twilio — sending text alerts, verifying phone numbers and signing you in by phone, only if you choose to use your number.
• Google Cloud — hosting the website.
• Google Analytics and Google Ads — measure visits to our public pages and whether our Google ads lead to sign-ups.
• Meta (Facebook and Instagram) — a Meta pixel on our homepage records page views, sign-ups and started watches, so we can measure our ads on those platforms.

The Google and Meta tags receive information about how you use the site (the pages you view, what you search for, when you sign up or start a watch) along with your IP address and browser details. We do not send them your email address, phone number or account details.

Each processes your data under its own privacy and security terms, on our instructions. Beyond these, we disclose data only if the law requires it.

4. Cookies and local storage

Our own browser storage does two things: it keeps you signed in and it remembers your dark-mode preference. Separately, Google Analytics, Google Ads and the Meta pixel set their own cookies or identifiers to measure visits and ad performance. You can block or delete these in your browser settings, with a content blocker, or with your device's ad-privacy controls; blocking them doesn't affect your alerts. You can also use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on or Meta's ad preferences.

5. Keeping and deleting your data

• Your account data is kept while your account exists.
• Delete your account anytime from account settings — this removes your watches, alert history, and profile.
• Every alert email includes an unsubscribe link that pauses your watches instantly.
• You can request a copy of your data or its deletion via the contact form.

6. Security

Connections to the site are encrypted (HTTPS), sign-in uses one-time codes instead of passwords, and database access is restricted. No internet service can promise perfect security, but we keep the amount of data worth stealing as small as possible — that's the best protection there is.

7. Children

CampsiteScan isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. Creating an account requires being 18 or older.

8. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll email account holders and update the date at the top. Continued use after that means you accept the updated policy.
